As we come to this earth and live through every phase of life and eventually as we die, do we (if only for once) live as we like?
I mean, do we live a life where we are not chained to social boundaries, where we care not for the disapproving stares of society? Do we (if only for once) walk without wearing the mask that has been made for us by parents, friends, society etc.?
If you have been true to yourself and have lived exactly as you like and have been loved for it then you, my friend, are blessed.
For those; who face criticism when they actually unchain themselves from all these social restraints, they are not.
In the words of Jim Morrison:
“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask.”
I idolize Morrison’s views here.
We have been given a role. As we come to this earth, we are told what to do and what not to do. How to live our life and how not to live our life.
Have you ever thought about it?
And we begin to act upon all these stranger advices which only erase from inside us who we truly are. Turning us into someone different. Something less grand. Not even a mere shadow of what we could have been. Just a brick in the wall. Another insignificant human being. Who comes to life, passes school, gets a job, gets married, has kids, retires and finally dies alone. A cursed, decrepit soul. Nothing special. Move on! Move on!
Here is a fun quote by Frank Zappa:
“If you end up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest or some guy on TV telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it.”
So all I wanted to say here is, overcome all these boundaries. Break on through to the other side. Be yourself and achieve greatness from it. If the world is turning right and you want to turn left, TURN LEFT! Who knows you end up walking on the road where the scene is much more beautiful, the fruits are riper and the trees are greener..
Discovering yourself is a journey, my friends.
You get criticized for it, you get hated for it but eventually you get respected for it as well.
This is how great men came. They weren’t sheep who followed the shepherd. They made their own way and found themselves, found success and found their names in the history books and in many hearts.
The purpose of this post was just to shift your focus a little on yourself from all the petty problems of life.
I will end this post with a poem of mine.
Birds in this cage
Birds in this cage
With heads bent low
And wings of untasted breeze
Starved of flight, starved of life
Deeply chained in fears to know
They lived in a cage without a door
Then one bird cries
Raise your heads, oh brothers
We are all gathered here today
There is freedom on the other side
With eternal, free and limitless skies
We can flap our wings
To freedom, to glory and to victory
Masters of our own fate
Just step out through this gate
Don’t hesitate
A journey towards the divine heavens
A flight to the mighty arms of freedom
A flight towards home
Fool, cried the rest in unison
You have no home save for this cage
Your untrained wings would bring steady drop
To your end, to the end
The sky so far, we cannot reach
And where will you find crumbs to eat?
What more is there left to preach?
Now keep silent, you deluded bird
Your silly dreams are too absurd
I feel sorry for you, my enslaved brothers
Your lives are confined to this cage
While eternal skies wait for me
You’re afraid to fall while I believe
I see the things you cannot see
As I step out and take flight
A flight to the mighty arms of freedom
A flight towards home
I am the free bird
I will wait for you
On the other side..
